Theresa Joyce Neville

Theresa Joyce Neville, was born in Ottawa, Canada on September 19, 1933, the youngest of Charlie and Nellie Neville's four children. Joyce was saddened recently to realize she was the last living of her relatives and closest friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Frances and her husband Rudy Rivest, her brother Charlie, and his wife Dell Neville and, her baby brother, Leonard, who passed shortly after his birth but was never forgotten. Joyce was a registered nurse. She trained in Ottawa and completed public health training in British Columbia. She moved to California in 1963 along with her only child, Ellen. They lived in Santa Monica for many years, where Joyce was a medical office manager and later a charge nurse at St. John's Hospital. She then hit the books again, obtaining her bachelor's in nursing. Later, she enjoyed a teaching career. Finally retiring from Blue Cross where she was a utilization review nurse and staunch advocate for the patients she served in that role. Joyce was always about faith, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed by Ellen and her husband, Jeff Malek, granddaughter, Kelli and her husband Ben Collins, and grandson Nick Malek and his wife Cheyenne (Texas). Grandma always loved her grandkids! When they were little, showering them with presents and later helping them through life's challenges. Joyce also loved babysitting her greats, Kaitlyn and Tori Sanchez and enjoyed hearing about all their endeavors. Joyce was overjoyed with her newest greats, Todd Kilroy Malek and his big sister, Aubrey. She was Auntie Jo to Lori, Peter and Jill (Neville). Joyce was known by them and Ellen's friends (Jennifer) as being thoughtful, caring and very funny. Joyce garnered a wealth of longtime friends; to say the least, an eclectic group whom she cherished. On the surface some might have raised eyebrows. But she was never judgmental and was always there when she was needed. When Joyce arrived in Kingsburg (2001) to be with the grandkids. She was one of the first to move in on the block and had many fun times with her neighbors. Joyce helped at the church office and was involved in the Women's Club and funeral committee. As many know, she loved animals and was never without a loving companion(s) - birds, dogs and cats! Until her last days, her caregivers and many neighbors continued to watch out for her and made her smile. A Rosary will be held at 9:30am Friday, January 12th, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1275 Smith Street, Kingsburg, immediately followed by a Memorial Mass service at 10:00 AM.
