Blanche May Brown

Blanche May Brown (Lindgren), a remarkable artist whose life was defined by creativity and unwavering spirit, concluded her earthly journey at age 96, on June 4, 2025. Born in Battle Lake, Minnesota, in 1929, Blanche was "born to art," with a consuming desire to create beauty that shaped her existence from the earliest age. Despite being challenged by limited eyesight from birth and enduring numerous eye operations throughout her life, Blanche never allowed these obstacles to hinder her creative fire. She famously painted by touch when she couldn't see, declaring, "I never considered the problems I had with my eyes as a handicap. In fact, I think God limited my eyesight so that I would look into my heart and see the subjects for my art with the eyes of love." Blanche's formal artistic training included commercial art studies in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she received a scholarship and graduated with honors, as well as continued studies at Santa Monica City College and Otis Art Institute. Her extensive career included illustrating religious and children's books, greeting cards, and leading the art department at Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Company in Los Angeles, California. A classical painter, her realistic oil portraits and landscapes are displayed throughout the United States. She was also recognized with the Rare Book Award for her illustrations in "What's Keeping You, Santa." Her fine spiritually-themed artwork graced the pages of many "Challenge Magazine" issues and books published by The King's Bridge, of Sedona, Arizona. Beyond her artistic achievements, Blanche cherished her role as a mother to three daughters and a grandmother to three granddaughters, considering "the privilege of being a mother the greatest art I have ever known." Blanche Brown's life stands as a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and the enduring beauty seen through the eyes of love. She and husband Wesley Brown raised their daughters in a creative home environment of making art and music with family outings to museums, concerts and camping trips around Southern California. Blanche enjoyed a blessed later life for eight years living under the care of her daughter Carolyn Jobe of Kingsburg with husband Carl, and granddaughters Hayley and Kelsey. She is also survived by daughter Barbara Brown of Redondo Beach and daughter Annette Skaltsounis with husband Michael, and granddaughter Alexandria of Los Angeles. Blanche will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, enduring smile, and love for life will forever be remembered.
