Josephine P. Lowry

Josie Lowry, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 4:19 PM. Josephine Pumarejo was born in Mercedes, Texas, on August 17, 1947 to Benjamin and Leonor Pumarejo. The family moved to California in 1953, where Josie graduated from Sanger High School. Josie was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the late 70's. This crippling and debilitating disease was just one of many crosses she carried with strength and courage. She was left to raise her two young daughters, Christy and Erica, alone and she did so with great pride. Josie loved her daughters, and raised them to be as courageous and strong as she was. No longer having to play the role of two parents, Josie was finally able to enjoy life when her daughters were grown with children of their own; she was able to focus on caring for and loving all 5 of her grandchildren. Even through the disability and pain, she would show up when needed to help her daughters care for her beloved grandchildren. Josie was and will always be seen as a pillar of strength and kindness to her family and community. She raised her daughters to see everyone as equal, no matter their status; a belief that was taught to her by her parents, and continues to be the legacy that has been passed down to her grandchildren. Josie will be dearly missed by daughter Christy Lowry, daughter Erica Lorentz, her son-in-law Matthew Lorentz, grandchildren (Emily Rubbico, Elizabeth Lorentz, Nicholas Lorentz, Sarah Lorentz, and Jackson), grandson-in-law Samuel "Joey" Rubbico III, and great-grandchildren (Ellie, Easton, and Baby Rubbico). She leaves behind her sister and brothers, Diana Herrera, Ted Pumarejo, Ben Pumarejo, and Leo Pumarejo and their respective families. Services will be as follows: Viewing will be at Salser & Dillard Creighton Chapel in Kingsburg May 15th from 4-7pm, with the Rosary beginning at 6pm. The funeral will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Selma May 16th at 10am with the burial following at the Kingsburg Cemetery. The reception for loved ones will be held at Kingsburg Historical Park following graveside service. Services have been entrusted to Salser & Dillard Creighton Chapel.
