Lucia Mae Nelson

Lucia Ophelia Nelson joined our Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2019, in Clovis, Ca. Born in Kingsburg, California on May 3, 1949, to the late Louis and Gloria Ophelia, Lucia had a happy, secure childhood in the small town of Kingsburg. Lucia graduated from Kingsburg High School in 1967, with honors and from Fresno State University with a Teaching Credential. She married her husband, Robert L. Nelson in the summer of 1969 and enjoyed a loving union of marriage for 50 years. Lucia taught elementary school, and then took time off to be with her two sons. As her sons matured, she returned to teaching elementary school, and finished her career teaching reading to students needing extra help for 12 years at Scandinavian Middle School (the same school as Rob). Lucia is survived by her husband, Rob, and her two sons, Daniel Nelson and Douglas Nelson, both aerospace engineers. Dan resides in Flower Mound Tx with his wife, Karine and their two sons, Andrew and Jeremy. Doug resides in Torrance Ca with his wife, Diana, son Jack and daughter Rya. Lucia is also survived by her sister, Dianne Ophelia Colson and her husband, Scott Colson. As Lucia reached her golden years, she was challenged with Scleroderma. This disease progressively impacted her lungs and physical abilities, but could not affect her tirelessly optimistic spirit and love for life. Lucia genuinely enjoyed helping others. She consistently had a smile on her face and kind words for friends and strangers alike. Lucia will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond; her light has touched many in her long & joyous life and will continue on in the hearts and minds of all who've known her. Friends are invited to attend a Roman Catholic Memorial Mass at the Holy Family Church located at 1275 Smith St., Kingsburg, CA on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Subsequently, Lucia will be laid to rest at the Kingsburg Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Swan Court, Holiday Inn, Selma, CA.
